Masters of the Remix: Chewy Chocolate Cookies

Sorry for the post drought recently, this 6pm to 10pm class is kicking my ass right now. Going straight from work to class is not as easy as I thought it would be when I registered for this class in April. That being said, there probably won't be anymore Tuesday/Thursday post until August 18th, the last day of class.

Anyway, about 2 weeks ago I said I was gonna do a Masters of the Remix post about Chewy Chocolate Cookies. I probably would have never gotten around to putting the post together if it wasn't for me getting their new Pedrophilia remix today. The new remix is righteous just like all their other remixes.

Busy P - Pedrophilia (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix) [YSI]
DJ Mehdi - Saharian Break (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix) [YSI]
Justice - Genesis (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix) [YSI]
Digitalism - Idealistic (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix) [YSI]
Feadz - Humanoid (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix) [YSI]

My track selection isn't the result of an Ed Banger bias, damn near 70% of their remixes are of tracks from Ed Banger artists. Go to their myspace to get a preview of their Body Crash remix, it sounds dope so far. I'm off to work on a mix I'm putting together. I might post it up here if it doesn't totally suck. Au revoir.

Long time comin

Sorry for the long time since my last post... well you probably haven't even noticed since my good mate here has been picking up the slack with some great posts. Anyway I thought i'd better redeem myself with a couple of tracks which are pretty much essential to have at the moment.

The Crookers, as you will undoubtedly be aware of have remixed Busy P's "To Protect and Entertain" and is due to come out any time now on the "Pedrophilia" EP. For now you'll have to be content with this great set rip I found which is sooo much better than the Myspace teaser rip that has been circulating. By the way, this track is fecking tits!

Next is an upcoming producer who has been causing a stir lately. His name is Duke Dumont and he makes bangers, but don't pass this dude off as just some-other remixer/producer person, his beats are Scribe-like f.r.e.s.h. This track in particular is causing shockwaves, appearing in sets by the likes of Erol Alkan. Also make sure you check out his remix of "Two Doors Down" by Mystery Jets - its a pure gold.

The Proxy are another group who, like Duke Dumont, are solidifying themselves as legit players in the industry. Their tracks "Dancing in the Dark", "40 seconds", and this track here - "Raven" are appearing in sets and blogs all over the place and for good reason too -- they are absolute grinders that make you wanna fight and party at the same time, what a combo!

Whats with the picture you ask? Well it's pretty much what i've been trying to do lately... you know it's hard to get through your HSC when its the year you get to do everything you've ever wanted to do!
Until next time...

Ed Rec Volume III

Ed Rec Vol III drops May 26th and French-electro fans everywhere rejoice (including me). MISSINGTOOF posted the album teaser mixed by Feadz 4 days ago. I was one mouse click away from posting it on the blog before I realized, in my opinion, the teaser isn't that great. The individual tracks are dope, I just don't like the mix that much (sorry Feadz). I found three of the tracks online and I'm posting them for your listening pleasure. Follow the missingtoof link if you want the teaser.

The first track is To Protect & Entertain produced by Busy P featuring Murs. In the track, it sounds like Murs has been reading his scenester manual as he calls out blogs, cobrasnake, hipsters, and raves (little late on that one Murs). Great production and Murs is hilarious.

A new Ed Rec mixtape would not be an Ed Rec mixtape without a Justice track/remix. Stress(Auto Remix) sounds like Stress if Justice performed the track at the Grammys. The big award shows always like to take a current track and let a symphony or orcharestra play some of the parts but it usually doesn't sound as good as this remix.

Over The Top is the first track I've heard from Mr Flash and from the opening guitar riff (that any hair metal fan will love) the song lives up to its name. Actually, I don't know if the title is a reference to the guitar playing of 80s hair metal bands or the 1987 Sylvester Stallone arm-wrestling movie Over The Top (yes, the one where he had to arm wrestle for custody of his kid), either way its badass.

ED BANGER Videos! Yippppeeee!!!

I’ve been watching a lot of Ed Banger Records artists lately. Now I know Ed Banger Records has its haters and to them I say, “F U!” I can listen to what I want, yes even the occasional Gwen Stefani or Fergie song, I don’t have to answer to no one. Now that that act of lashing out to mask my own embarrassment is over, here is a list. You know you like it.

First up is DVNO, the latest from Justice. I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen and heard this one but I’m gonna put it anyway cause it helped me learn the lyrics of the song. I never knew what the hell was going on in this song; I actually thought he was saying “DVNO, Fuck a capital letter”. At least I got most of it right.

Next it’s a cool video from the Token Black Guy in the Ed Banger group. Just kidding, DJ Medhi is cool dude. I saw him opening up for Justice in Austin, he is a good DJ/ cheerleader. He would walk away from the tables periodically dancing or leading the crowd with the now standard electro fist pump, which I patented (it’s the truth, do your research). This video for I Am Somebody shows Medhi doing some more dancing and unexplained fighting. (Peep the Dave 1 cameo at the end)

Rainbow Man from Busy P is a lackluster song, so you’re probably wondering why I included it. Its because this video has the laziest gay dancer I’ve ever seen. I’m not being homophobic, I’m cool with gay people (living with one for two years in the dorms), but come on this dude has got to “BRING IT”. Gay men are known worldwide for their flamboyant dance moves in dance clubs and this dude just treads into the color-changing room and half-asses it.

D.A.N.C.E. the video that spawned a million slim-fit t-shirts. This video was so badass it prompted Kanye West to go out and get So Me to direct the exact same video for Good Life, except a little Blacker.

Another video from DJ Medhi for the track Signatune. This song is so hard I thought for sure this swole-ass Russian(?) dude was preparing to do some hard-core whacking, and not the kind you do while listening to Christopher Cross and watching reruns of Mork and Mindy alone in your room (I can’t be the only that does this). Enough of about me just watch the video, the ending is cool.
