Le Castle Vania - Zero Machine (Official Release)

It hurts to admit it, but SSDT's reputation as a blog to visit to find new music was largely built by ripping songs from artists' Myspace page. Yeah, despicable I know. That explains why a lot of the early songs I posted had shitty sound quality. Well, six months and about five "Please remove (insert stolen track here)" emails later, I'm happy to say I haven't jacked a Myspace song since May. So I was pretty surprised when I read the email I received today from Le Castle Vania containing his newest work, Zero Machine. In the email, Dylan relays that the track was not supposed to be released until today, and (in bold print) it is not a Smashing Pumpkins remix. Oops, we posted Zero Machine two and half weeks ago. Double oops, it was referred to as a Smashing Pumpkins remix. Sorry dude. Our bad.

New Ish From Hatchmatik, Le Castle Vania, and Kissy Sell Out

First up is the remix of Adam Kesher's Local Girl by Hatchmatik. After hearing his Club Aria remix, and his remixes for Thunderheist, Chromeo and MTO, I thought I had his style figured out. Hyphy, hyphy, hyphy is what his myspace page says and that about sums the style. It's not Bay Area hyphy necessarily but the energy and intensity is there, it still makes you wanna go dumb while ghost ridin the whip. As I said earlier, I thought I had his style figured out, that is until I heard his Local Girl remix. In it, Hatchmatik lets the synth melodies and Adam Kesher's vocals take front seat in the track but keeps the vocals not to far behind. The sound was not what I was expecting when I first downloaded the track but it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Versatility in production styles is always a good thing.

Because I always make claims of not posting the tracks all the other blogs are posting, I wasn't gonna post the new Le Castle Vania remix of Through A Keyhole by Walter Meego I received yesterday. That resistance didn't last long though. As any blog reader knows, Le Castle Vania remixes are always top notch. The man knows how to get any song ready for the dancefloor. In Through A Keyhole, he adds some hard drum kicks, voice distortion and synth melodies flipping a rather humdrum song on its head. Le Castle Vania knows what the kids want and he gives it to them with every remix.

Since I was neither in my twenties or white during the 1990s, I have never heard of R.E.M. but I downloaded Kissy Sell Out's Bmore remix of Nightswimming anyway. Why you ask. Kissy Sell Out and bmore. The Kissy Sell Out remixes of Merrymaking at My Place and Fancy Footwork are badass, so I knew they would make Nightswimming better. And did I mention it was bmore, bmore is always ftw in my book. However, bmore can become repetitive after a while if the production is too sparse but that isn't a problem with this remix. Kissy Sell Out found the perfect mix between the standard bmore beat loop we all know and love and the pianos, violins and whatever other instruments (people still use those?) R.E.M. used to make Nightswimming.

Le Castle Vania Remix, Hall & Muthaf-ing Oates!!

Atlanta DJ/Producer, Le Castle Vania, posted this hot remix of the GRUM track Go Back yesterday on the Discodust blog. I’m pretty pissed I didn’t give this track its proper respect by listening to it right away cause this track is extremely banging. So here is the remix, a day late, I'm so ashamed.

The video above is from the MTV2 show, Wonder Showzen. Not sure if the show still airs, but it routinely teetered along the line between offensive and funny more than any show I've seen in awhile. That damn Chewties song is catchy as hell.

I read on Stereogum today that the bad boys of Yacht Rock, Hall and Oates, played their first show at the Troubadour in 35 years last week. In their soft-rocking honor, I'm posting this cover version of their 1981 hit I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) performed by PJ Pooterhoots. I also included a video of the smooth-voiced badasses performing there hit live at the Troubadour below.

Reenergized and Ready to Rock (RRR)

What's up people? Kinda been a slow couple of days for new electro-dance music (for me at least), I really wasn't finding nothing too interesting and I was feeling a little hesitant about posting. That is until I checked my gmail today which contained an email from Le Castle Vania himself, Dylan Eiland, thanking me for posting his remix of the Kill The Noise track, Hey You. I'm not too proud to say that the email made my day, getting any kind of recognition, let only from the artist himself, after a month and half of blogging kicks ass. So, as the title said, I'm fucking Triple R! Who wants to rock? Time to rock out with my cock out! (I swear, that is the last time I’ll ever use rock as a verb.)

Posting some Goose remixes I ran across on their myspace page. Bad ass remixes from possibly the best band named after a member of the Anatidae biological family.

I've been highly anticipating new tracks from Bird Peterson since I heard Twurk Central a month ago (damnit I know I was behind, don't rub it in). And finally, some old trax off Thomas Bangalter's Trax On Da Rocks and Trax On Da Rocks Vol. 2 released in '96 and '98. As you probably know, Thomas Bangalter is one half of the seminal French house duo, Daft Punk. Not sure if I am the only one late to the party on these two releases (I probably am), but I thought I would post a couple of trax up here for other people who might have also missed out on these albums to enjoy.
