Top Billin' - Sexytime EP

I want to start off this post with a BIG UP to Top Billin' for getting picked up by the M.I.A. tour while its rocking venues in Canada. This tour will bring some serious exposure to a group of fans already accepting to the badass B-more Top Billin blasts in the clubs. Second, I have to ask for forgiveness for posting these tracks off your forthcoming Sexytime EP. I had to do it, these tracks are hot like fire. Now, it's time to countdown to the dreadful "please remove this mp3" email. Get it while its hot (and still on the blog)!

The Sword: Tonight @ Rudyard's

Austin “stoner-metal” band, The Sword, make the Houston stop of their nationwide tour tonight at Rudyard’s and I couldn’t be more pumped. Their first album, Age of Winters, released in 2006 on Kemado Records has been a favorite of mine since its release. The album was “lo-fi” before “lo-fi” became hipster-approved and featured J.D. Cronise singing about swords, axes, aurochs, wizards, and horned goddesses. My favorite feature of the album wasn’t the Lord of the Rings-inspired lyrics though; it was the long, loud instrumentals that usually made up either the entire song or at least 50% of the song. Dueling guitars, banging drums, glorious solos, it’s all here. Their second album, Gods of the Earth, was released this April and it also brings the indie-metal goodies.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt as connected to a band’s guitar work as I felt while listening to The Sword, so you can imagine my excitement when I was able to play the part of lead guitar for their track Freya on Guitar Hero II. You can also imagine the mixture of heartbreak and rage I felt after trying 12 times to complete Freya on hard, only to receive a 3-Star review from whatever shit reviewer that resides in the Guitar Hero world.

Now, I know you might be worried I’m losing my electro-loving ways by listening to music performed the same way musicians did in the 1970s which, in the blogosphere, is akin to the Middle Ages. To those worried, I say don’t fret, I’ll ask them to perform a Justice cover (currently leaning towards D.A.N.C.E.).

A couple of tracks are posted below along with a video, and a cover of the Justice song Stress performed by Fucked Up.

The Sword - Maiden, Mother & Crone

The Sword - Barael’s Blade

Fucked Up - Stress (Justice Cover)

The Sword with Torche and Stinking Lizaveta @ Rudyard's. Doors open at 9. Ticket prices: Don't know, don't care cuz' I'm ballin like that.

Cassius & Nike

Nike has commissioned the French group, Cassius, to create a running/jogging album similar to the album 45:33 made for Nike by LCD Soundsystem. The Cassius album is titled Cassius Play and the group has completed it recently. The album teaser and the single version of Keep On Running are included below. My vote for the next album goes to Fujiya & Miyagi (listen up Nike).

Cassius – Keep On Running (single version)

Thanks to Discobelle for the heads up.

Hundreds & Thousands

Now that I’ve heard the awesome synth compositions from the group Hundreds and Thousands, I’m convinced that upon graduating 8th grade, each Aussie child is equipped with a Korg synthesizer in either standard keyboard or frontman-ready keytar form. If anyone else has a different theory that explains the contrast between the distort & bass heavy tracks coming out of Europe and the electropop emanating from the Land Down Under, I’ll give it a listen. In the meantime, give their first two tracks a listen.

Le Castle Vania Remix, Hall & Muthaf-ing Oates!!

Atlanta DJ/Producer, Le Castle Vania, posted this hot remix of the GRUM track Go Back yesterday on the Discodust blog. I’m pretty pissed I didn’t give this track its proper respect by listening to it right away cause this track is extremely banging. So here is the remix, a day late, I'm so ashamed.

SSDT. Underestimating tracks since 2k8. (Lame HRO homage)

The video above is from the MTV2 show, Wonder Showzen. Not sure if the show still airs, but it routinely teetered along the line between offensive and funny more than any show I've seen in awhile. That damn Chewties song is catchy as hell.

I read on Stereogum today that the bad boys of Yacht Rock, Hall and Oates, played their first show at the Troubadour in 35 years last week. In their soft-rocking honor, I'm posting this cover version of their 1981 hit I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) performed by PJ Pooterhoots. I also included a video of the smooth-voiced badasses performing there hit live at the Troubadour below.

Oh!

I have to admit, i'm really not that cluey when it comes to electro house from more than a year an a half ago. While I have been listening to 'house music' for over two years, the fact remains that most of those years were spent listening to those annual compilations that are brought out by The Ministry of Sound; not exactly ahead of the game by any stretch. The point i'm getting at is that I'm only just realising who the big artists are. Boys Noize is one artist who i've been trying to get up to date with. With Danger's highly anticipated remix of "Oh!" making its way to my library, I thought it a must to finally become aquainted with the original, especially since both the Danger and A-Trak remixes have been absolutely superb. The original is an absolute tune, and is a strongly encouraged listen. However, I know what you readers are like; you want the newest tracks, and you want them now! So without further ado - the Danger remix.

The Cool Kids - Bake Sale EP

I don't advocate posting whole EPs or albums but this time it's Cool Kids approved (well Cool Kids promo team approved) . They slangin their new EP, Bake Sale, all over the internets FO' FREE!! I count 4 previously unreleased tracks out of the 10 track EP. Enjoy.

The Phantom Post

More Funky French house from The Phantom’s Revenge. I’ve heard a lot of house in 2k8 and Phantom’s house is the funkiest. No one can beat the Phantom’s sample choices. The basslines, percussions, horn sections, vocals, and the steady bumping bass move along around 120 to 130 bpm reminiscent of listening to a nine-member jazz-funk robot band playing in a 22th century nightclub. I’m not crazy, listen to the tracks, you’ll agree.

Old School Reunion

My search for good new music collided with a roadblock today and I began to panic. I haven’t posted music since yesterday morning and I was beginning to worry I would lose my adoring audience (all 10 of you) if I didn’t post anything. My desperation somehow brought me to the myspace page of New Young Pony Club. In NYPC’s comments section I saw one of my most highly despised myspace practices, the “Check out our myspace page, we just posted blah blah blah!!!11!!1!” I hate this type of shameless self-promotion, I don’t even think twice about clicking to hear the crap track from the crap artist. This time was different, the desperation took hold and I was compelled to click. The artist in question this time was Old School Reunion and the track was Love Story, and I’ll be damned, it was good. I guess I really have a soft spot in my heart for electro-pop.

Moral of the story, every artist that posts tracks on a more established artist’s myspace page are not shit. Just 95% of them are shit.

As the great Michael Scott said this season, “Desperate situations yield the quickest results.” Michael Scott for Pennsylvania Paper Product Manager of the Year!

Busta Rhymes - Dangerous (Night Facilities Remix)

The 17yr old wunderkind Night Facilities (aka Louis La Roche) has posted a new remix of the Busta Rhymes track Dangerous on his myspace page. The remix is dope of course. I think more peeps should remix Busta. He loves electro music. Don’t forget, Busta was the first rapper to have “Middle America” unknowingly jamming to Daft Punk.

Klever, Krames, Bananas, Chocolate Cookies and more

Okay, so somebody stole my car radio Saturday morning while my car was parked in front of my house. Aside from being pissed because I now must buy a new car radio, I’m even more pissed since I live in a relatively safe neighborhood and I didn’t even get home until 3:00 or 3:30 am. That means the bastard stole my radio in the wee hours of the morning not knowing if me or the 3 other people that live with me were awake. I’m not that mad though, after seeing Training Day (The Best Cop Movie Ever) in 11th grade, I’ve always wanted to bust up some bad guy’s face. So what I’m gonna do is buy a brand new expensive car radio, get a taser and a can of mace, strip down to my underwear and wait in the tall grass. When that mofo comes back for Round 2, I’m gonna spring like a mongoose and go squirrel-shit crazy on his ass. No amount of “Don’t tase me bro” will quell my wild, unclothed fury. Like the great Detective Carter once said, “Don't you ever touch a Black man’s radio!!”

BANG BANG BANG!

This week has been absolutely insane in terms of my internet/blog/music life. Firstly, all of the Crooker's remixes of Moby's "I Love To Move In Here" are out, as is one of the tracks off their "Mad Kidz" EP (BUY IT!!BUY IT!!), and on top of that, their long awaited remix of "To Protect and Entertain" was recently added to their Myspace player and subsequently ripped by many ravenous bloggers. Thats alot of Crookers to digest in one week WOW! Other than that, I got my hands on a great Stereoheroes remix of "Fukt" by Teen Wolf which is an absolute banger. Then to top all of this off, The Bloody Beetroots remix of "72 Virgins" by Shitdisco came into my possession, and needless to say, it is a growling destroyer of a track. Enjoy!

Ice Cream

With new tracks from Louis La Roche, The Phantom’s Revenge, Sidechains, and the German group Ice Cream, the first quarter of 2008 has been tremendous for French-inspired house. These artists are churning out hits that keep everyone on the dancefloor dancing, and we all know that more dancing means more unsolicited dry humping (YES!!). Until U Get Enough and To The Beat from Ice Cream are two of the most fun tracks I’ve heard all week. For those of you who are easily embarrassed, close the door now, you will be dancing.

Don't Fight It & Boom Shaka Laka

I like to move in here

I first heard the Crookers remix of Moby's "I Like To Move In Here" on a mix that they did for Australia's Triple J way back in February. Ever since, I've wanted to get my hands on this track. Little did I know - the Crookers, in fact, did three remixes of the Moby track. The good news is, i've got my hands on one of them. The bad news is, this remix isn't as good as the Crookers "CRACK" remix which appeared on their Triple J set. Don't get me wrong, this remix entitled the "Crookers Bass In Here Remix" is a great track, but as with artists that do various remixes of a single track - one is always the standout. Anyway, Moby's release of "I Like To Move In Here" remixes is one worth getting your hands on so get buying if you want all of the Crookers remixes of the track, oh and the Seamus Haji remix as well.

BMX - Refero Beach

It’s a fact, SSDT is completely infatuated with the Australian group BMX. Their unique approach to electro-pop makes me wanna put on a pastel colored polo and do the Carlton dance. I'm gonna go out on a limb and claim BMX as my fav group from Australia for ‘08. I still love ya Ladyhawke!

Lil' Wayne - Lollipop Remixes

This blog is not big on posting tracks that have already made their rounds on other blogs. Posting a track after its already been "big-upped" by 15 other blogs is like having sex with the high school slut after she already finished with the debate team. No bueno. However, that rule doesn't apply to these Lollipop remixes that have blazed across the internets the last 2 days. These remixes earns a special place in my heart for one reason, they make Lollipop listenable.

I'm not afraid to say (from the safety of my bedroom) that I f-ing hate the original Lollipop, it has singlehandedly made me unexcited about the release of Tha Carter III. Unoriginal use of a vocoder, 5th grade sexual innuendo, and a R&B hook all add up to a predetermined single that will be skipped by everyone except 12-yr old girls. Okay, rant over. . . . listen to the remixes, they rock!!!!

Too many beetroots on my stale McOz burger

I'm just about getting tired of posting Bloody Beetroots track after Bloody Beetroots track, but this ish just keeps coming! Yet again a perfecto track from the Italian duo.

To save myself from getting too stale on these posts here is something fresh. GRUM! I can't believe I slept on this guy. I got his remix of Revolte's "Ironical Sexism" a while back and simply just forgot to listen to it. So i've got my iPod on shuffle one day and then WOW! what a sick remix! So i've recently gotten my hands on all things GRUM and have not been disapointed. Do not sleep on this kid like I did. Visit GRUM's myspace here. All tracks listed here are Highly Recommended.

Time For A Little Adventure

You ready for a little adventure? No. Well go back to sleep grandpa cause I'm posting six tracks without any description. Whenever I see tracks on a blog without the usual masterfully crafted 10-word description, my decision to download the mp3s or not is on par with Neo's fateful choice of swallowing the red pill or the blue pill. The most I will say about these tracks, is that I got them from the internets and they all rock.

I suggest taking the Red Pill. Who doesn't wanna be "The One"?

Playdoe - It's That Beat (Toxic Avenger Remix)

I’m really feeling this electro-rap track from Playdoe, and who would have thought they were from South Africa. My American ignorance is embarrassing. I’m gonna stop only looking at US and European acts and start looking for new electro groups coming out of Tajikistan, heard that’s the new hot spot. Anyway, big ups to Playdoe and the whole South African scene.

And thanks to DaGhis over at the Low Bee Forum for bringing this awesome track to my attention.

It Is Hot! Milk Was Definitely A Bad Choice.

Its hot and I'm sweating by balls off in my room that's been transformed to a sauna by the infamous Houston heat and humidity. That won't stop the posting though. Bon appetit and somebody please get me a popsicle before I die.

After hearing the Yahhh remix by Solly I had to have more, here is his remix of the Fortune track Bully.

Cool remix by EMYND of The Blackbyrds classic exhibitionist track, The Rock Creek Park. I guess they might not be singing about sex, but I'm pretty damn sure they ain't talking about throwing frisbee.

I'm a P.I.M.P.

Whats happening everybody, I've got a treat for you today. Lately I've been getting my hands on anything that French DJ/producer, Don Rimini, has ever touched. The reason behind this, ladies and gentlemen, is that everything i've heard so far is straight FIRE!

All of this was pretty much started when I listened to his remix of the classic hip hop song "Bust A Move" by Young MC, because that ish was just about as insane as it gets.

Then I decided to give his Myspace a visit and discovered this perhaps even more bangin track.

This track is just a weak Myspace link (sorry, I want the original too) but you'll get the idea.

Back In Full Blast Mode

Long time, no read huh? I know it has been a while since my last post, but I have good excuses. First, like a lot of people, this last week I was lost in Liberty City for a couple of days. The game is badass; this isn’t a video game site so I won’t go into it anymore than to say GTA IV is fucking awesome. Then Friday, the Glow in the Dark Tour stopped in Houston. My prose can not sufficiently describe the glorious experience of seeing Kanye perform live, so I’ll defer you to Roshan's review over at weworemasks.blogspot.com (whenever he completes it). Saturday, saw Iron Man, awesome. And Sunday I was just being lazy, but no worries today I’m back. I don’t have anything new, so I’m gonna post some old stuff just in case you missed it. Holla!

Immuzikation killing the mixes as always.
Peaches/The Presidents of the United States of America - Fuck The PUSA (Immuzikation Dunki Blend) [YSI]

DJ Solly holding it down with the Bmore remixes.
Soulja Boy - Yahhhh (Solly Remix) [YSI]

Delta 5, like Gang of Four except women.
Delta 5 - Mind Your Own Business [YSI]

Don Cherry – Better walker than the Bee Gees?
Don Cherry - I Walk [YSI]

Great song that’s only topped by its own badass music video. I would kill for that white leather jacket; I don’t care that’s its currently 102 degrees in Houston.
Punks Jump Up - Dance To Our Disco [YSI]

And finally Klever x Blaqstarr= dancefloor gold.

Its dat purp its dat purp

This is a track i've been waiting to get my hands on for around 3 or 4 months, so you can imagine how excited I was when I saw this track in full 320kbs. After getting it, I was unsure whether to post it yet since many of our posts lately have been about the Bloody Beetroots, but this is just too huge to pass up. Anyways enough with the talk here is the holy grail of all Bloody Beetroots remixes in full, ready to drop, 320kbs!!

And remember, you got it on Southside Discotech!!!

Sam Sparro

Sometimes, judging an album by its cover isn’t a bad thing. The only reason I discovered Sam Sparro, the English/Australian electrosoul singer, and his self-titled debut was because of the album cover. The hipster glasses, shiny shooting stars, and the kaleidoscope of colors made me think of Calvin Harris and the Klaxons. Not bad company to be in, seeing how both artists released two of the best pop albums of 2007.

Sam Sparro - 21st Century Life [YSI]

The album Sam Sparro moves listeners with a mix of disco, soul, and electro reminiscent of I Created Disco, the album released by Calvin Harris last year. The biggest difference between the two album is the lyrical content. With lyrics ranging from parental abuse, poverty, religion, pollution, and war, Sam Sparro takes you much farther than merrymaking or getting all the girls. Sam Sparro hits an intellectual-to-dancable balance that should make this album popular with the hipster set. A person can listen to Sam Sparro strictly to dance, but tell everyone they love the album because Sam Sparro’s songs “speak to the problems our generation”. The track 21st Century Life is a perfect example of this balance. It uses a Daft Punk sample and sounds groovy enough to be on Prince's Purple Rain album, but the lyrics address the hasty, impetuous life we live today and Sparro’s disappointment with how the problems of the 20th century continued through to the 21st century. Sparro also drops lessons in his best Prince-inspired falsetto on the track Hot Mess about how fame and public attention means nothing without love and self-esteem. And in Sally, he gives life advice to a stripper abused by her father over some Cameo-esque synth-soul. The 80s electrofunk production used throughout the album matches perfectly with Sparro’s soulful singing voice.

Sam Sparro - Cut Me Loose [YSI]

A good pop album has awesome production, meaningful lyrics, spectacular singing, and most importantly, it delivers a good time. Sam Sparro excels in all these areas to create what will undoubtedly be one of the best pop albums of 2008. Pick up the album here from Amazon.

Sam Sparro - Sally [YSI]

New Justice Video - Stress

Damn, didn't know Justice fans were such thugs. Not going to anymore of their concerts unarmed.

Is that dog for sale?

I'm a huge fan of sebastiAn, in fact he is probably ranking as my absolute favourite DJ/producer at the moment. His new EP "Motor" was insane no matter what anyone else may say, and his earlier tracks such as "Ross Ross Ross" and his remix of "Human After All" still find their way into my On-The-Go iPod playlists. SebastiAn's newest track doing the rounds is "Dog", a song which I like, but not as an electro/house fan, but more as a metal fan, because, essentially it pretty much is a metal track with a tiny bit more choppiness. This edit of "Dog" by Choreo brings the track into a more dancefloor friendly realm, and I may like it just a little bit more than the original (even though I am usually partial to an original mix). Anyway scoop this track up, its a killer.

sebastiAn - dog (choreo edit)

BONUS!!

Big bonus huh?
